Big Stack Laziness

August 4th, 2010, 11:06 am

At Everest, the way you play should be determined by the situations that surround you; your opponents, your position at the table, and your chip stack should all determine how you play any given hand, particularly if you’re the large stack at a table. I’ve seen far too many players hold the large stack without doing anything with it; many players don’t take advantage of their stack, they’ll just sit there, content to let their stack dwindle away until they’ve blinded themselves right out of the poker online tournament.

If you find yourself sitting behind the biggest stack at the poker online table, don’t be confused-your stack won’t win the game for you. You can’t sit back and let your opponents duke it out, because even if you didn’t blind out, even if you somehow made it to head’s up for first place, you’d find yourself at a huge chip disadvantage. After all, your opponent has accumulated all of the table’s chips while you were sitting on your thumbs and folding hand after hand.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as the big stack at the table is to do absolutely nothing with it. Don’t get lazy with your chips if you’re winning, or you won’t be for very long.
