How to save Money on Light Bulbs

December 8th, 2009, 1:53 pm

Entire websites have been written about how to save money on light bulbs. One site, Discount Light Bulbs, provides detailed data on new light bulb technologies and where to find wholesale prices on lightbulbs. Saving cash while buying light bulbs matters no matter which kind of light bulb you’re shopping for, be it an old school incandescent light bulb, a fluorescent light bulb, or a headlight for your car.

Buying light bulbs used to require little though on the part of the consumer. You just went to Wal-mart and picked out a 60 or 90 watt bulb. Science has revolutionized the way lightbulbs are constructed though, and the impact of light bulb usage on the environment is become a more pressing concern. These are good things, but not from the perspective of making it easier to shop for light bulbs.

Many consumers are now opting for CFL light bulbs for a lot of reasons. CFL’s use less electricity and last longer than traditional incandescents. They cost a little bit more, but the savings provided by the reduced energy use and longer lifespan compensate for the additional cost and then some.

LED light bulbs are another option, and if you’re more concerned about the environment than money, they might be the best choice for you.

Buying light bulbs on the Internet is one of the easiest ways of finding good prices. But that’s only a viable choice if you’re able to buy light bulbs in batches. (Single units are too expensive to ship for that to be a cost effective option.)

Google, eBay, and Bing are all good places to begin your search for affordable lightbulbs. Loews and Walmart are good options for people who prefer to not shop online.
